Reopening Update

Your friends at Buncombe Street UMC encourage everyone to show love for one another by continuing to practice good social distancing and to wear masks in public. Medical professionals recommend staying home as much as possible, wearing a mask and staying at least six feet away from other people while in public, washing your hands frequently, and avoiding gatherings with many people present.

Our Church Reopening Task Force, comprised of church members and staff with expertise in various areas, continues to monitor medical data and to meet weekly through Zoom to discuss options for in-person worship and other gatherings. The Task Force will continue to update you as decisions are made.

The Reopening Task Force’s guiding principles are:

· Honor the commission of the Church and BSUMC to “To be and to make disciples of Christ.”

· Ensure the Safety and Health of our congregation and staff.

· Seek guidance from the Bishop, medical professionals, and government authorities.

· Keep informed of changes and needed adjustments.

Your patience and support are greatly appreciated as we work toward reopening our church for in-person worship. In the meantime, we look forward to worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ together through online worship services and daily devotionals.

The congregation has been incredibly supportive of our current Worship Where You Are options as evidenced by the viewership and recent survey. A list of new ways to connect is also available and we continue to explore additional ways to enhance discipleship opportunities.

June 19, 2020 Reopening Task Force Update

Because we love one another, we continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our community. Due to the increase of cases in the Upstate, the Church Reopening Task Force has decided to delay in-person worship, tentatively scheduled for July 12, to a later date. The date to return to in-person worship will be based on a downturn of local cases, percentage of positive tests, and hospitalizations. In addition, guidelines for small groups remain the same. Small groups of 12 or less may meet outdoors, off church property, as long as the group practices social distancing.
